“Your mind is not a toilet. Other people’s crap doesn’t belong there.”

We’ve all been there when someone is constantly dumping their opinions or problems on you. Maybe a coworker is taking out their frustrations on you or a close friend has an opinion on everything you do. Oftentimes, this can leave you feeling anxious.

In today’s world, we are often impacted by outside influences—social media rants, gossip, and unwarranted opinions. If you don’t set boundaries, you’ll be stuck letting these excessive stressors take over your headspace.

As great as it is to be there for someone, not every problem is yours to handle. It is important to distinguish between your mental space and someone else’s emotional baggage. If the problem isn’t yours, don’t claim it. It is possible to be supportive without letting your mind become a dumping ground for negativity.
