The other day, I decided to ask my Facebook community a somewhat embarrassing question: What the hell is the metaverse?! I think it’s safe to say I got a lot more answers (and laughs) than I bargained for:
You are in it.
Basically Zuck’s idea of the matrix.
o It wasn't Zuck's idea, at all. He's just opportunistically hoping to capitalize on it and I'm sure he's ok if people think it was he that came up with it. Read Snow Crash, that's where the concept and the word was first introduced. Then read Ready Player One. Don't watch it. That won't work. Read it or listen to it on Audiobook.
It’s….out there….
Another way to manipulate the minds of society and take us out of reality…should be exciting
It’s not embarrassing to anyone who only uses Facebook. (I don’t only use Facebook so I guess I should be embarrassed)
It’s where all the fake businesses that got PPP loans live. 🤷🏼♂️
Watch Ready Player One
Ask your kids!
No clue but you’re ahead of me. I’m not even trying to understand it.
Here you go…listen to Zuck describe it himself. And then don’t allow your children anywhere near it! https://www.facebook.com/637643085/posts/10159761007433086/?d=n
Its the next generation of the internet 😜
It’s like the internet. It’s everywhere
It’s Revenge of the Nerds VI: The Metaverse. Storyline: Lewis and Gilbert have already achieved global domination and used their massive fortunes to hire attorneys to avert prison for sexual assault, trespassing and pornography (see ROTN 1), yet they are still unhappy with their physical forms they were born with. So now they created a virtual world where they can literally be anything other than themselves and they want to drag the entire planet along with them, and make lots and lots of money in the process. It’s a heart warming, dystopian tale.
I think no one cares…
o You sound like the person who 25 years ago said “internet who cares” or 10 years ago said “Bitcoin who cares” or 40 years ago said “Hip Hop who cares”. Easy tip….. whatever the twenty year old's are into today will become dominant within 10-15 years
I’ll have to ask my 13 year old when he wakes… 😳
Author Neal Stephenson coined the term “metaverse” in his 1992 science-fiction novel “Snow Crash,” which envisions a virtual reality-based successor to the internet. In the novel, people use digital avatars of themselves to explore the online world, often as a way of escaping a dystopian reality. Read snow crash to see where it came from...and where we are headed!
I’m not remotely interested in Metaverse. Nope. I was never a Facebook user either. Never - not once. I had a colleague tell me that my company needed to abandon Zoom or RingCentral for all video calls. Once Metaverse is here they explained “We need to buy a company Hologram and all visual meetings would be held inside a branded Hologram all for the low low cost of $20K - $30K. Nope. Not happening in my company. Not now. Not ever. Not a Zuck fan and no need to start now. I’ll never use Metaverse. I’m good.
